I’m pretty sure these are probably from the DVD that came as an extra on more expensive copies of the recent 18 Singles release. I snagged that version, mainly to hear the two new songs (yes, I already own multiple copies of the 16 other singles) and get this DVD. “Miss Sarajevo” is indeed the best of the bunch, and the sole reason I got the DVD. Hearing Bono hit that high note in concert was amazing and I wanted to have a copy. Take that Pavarati.
I think you can also get audio versions from iTunes, though they may be on an ‘album only’ basis. Or I might have seen them in the UK store and not the U.S. one. I don’t remember.

I’ve reached the point with U2 where, even though they’re probably my favorite band, I refuse to buy yet another copy of “Pride” or “Where the Streets Have No Name” unless there’s a dang good reason, and for me, two new songs that I’m not that excited about aren’t a dang good reason. I think it’s actually a bit crappy that they expect their fans to shell out full price for yet another “Best Of” just to get two new songs.
But I do really like “Miss Sarajevo” from the Milan show, and I also thought it was an amazing moment to see live, so I wouldn’t mind having the audio. Maybe I’ll look around for it. I actually prefer this all-Bono version over the original with Pavarotti.

I think the ‘best of’ thing is more a record company deal than U2′s bright idea. I was simply buying two new songs and a DVD. Usually when they put out a best of there’s some type of bonus thing that the nutso fans like myself are actually buying. For the best of the 80s and 90s it was the b-sides. For this one it was the DVD. Since I’m actually getting something more than one or two new songs I don’t mind so much.
I much prefer the Bono-only version of “Miss Sarajevo”. Just can’t stand the operatic Pavarotti.

You’re probably right that it’s the record company doing it and not necessarily the band, though obviously they’re making money from sales (as they should). I just wish there was a way to buy the new stuff standalone and pay for only the new stuff. I suppose you could look at it as, in the case of a big fan like you or I, we’re paying for the new stuff and the stuff we already have is the “bonus” material we don’t actually want or need, but it still seems antiquated in the “pay for what you want” iTunes age.
And yeah, I hate 99% of opera, so we’re definitely on the same page with Pavarotti. Hardcore opera fans might disagree with me, but I actually feel like the words carry more emotion when Bono sings them.
